This book was first published in Hungarian in 2002 and immediately gained great popularity. It has since gone on to a third edition. In this column, we will be publishing one excerpt from it every week.
„Two parts of this book show how differently food and illnesses are thought about in the West and the East. It contains recipes on how we can quickly and easily incorporate the healing properties of Eastern cuisine into our daily diet. The first part presents the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine on health and healing, as well as the place of food and diet in this system. We will also learn what foods and kitchen equipment we need if we want to cook Chinese style, and I will explain some Chinese cooking techniques.
The second part focuses on over thirty different ailments, including arthritis, cancer, haemorrhoids, and menstrual discomfort. For each condition, it outlines the Western and Eastern medicine perspectives. We briefly present the most effective dietary recommendations against the given ailment, which can be prepared in your own kitchen. Finally, we offer delicious, nutritious, and varied Chinese recipes suitable for combating specific illnesses.
It perhaps goes without saying that this book offers no guaranteed „cure” for any illness. Instead, it provides a unique opportunity to establish proper eating habits, to prevent diseases through food and drink, and to discover Chinese cuisine and enjoy its flavours. At the same time, it gives us the chance to gain insight into the secrets of ancient Chinese medicine and learn how to apply this knowledge in our own lives. We wish you much enjoyment in this endeavour.”
