Tea prepared from elderflower has diuretic, digestion-boosting and cough-suppressing effects. It is used for colds, bronchitis, as a sweat-inducing agent and to support the immune system.
Fresh elder shoots have a strong laxative effect. They are also used to cleanse the blood, for earaches, and hoarseness. The fruits are diaphoretic, and in larger quantities have laxative effects, recommended for swelling and rheumatism.
The bark of the elderberry has laxative and anthelmintic effects. It is strongly diuretic, recommended for acute kidney inflammation and general oedema.
The leaves have a diuretic and laxative effect, and alleviate rheumatic pain. They are also recommended for reducing fever. They promote strong sweating during exanthematous fevers (measles, scarlet fever), rheumatic fever, and catarrhal infections (bronchitis, flu). Internal use is rare – it is most often recommended for bleeding and burns.
Tea preparation: Boil 2.5 dl of water and pour over 1 level tablespoon (3g) of flowers. Leave to infuse for 15 minutes and strain. Do not use a metal sieve.
Internal use of tea: Elderflower tea, drunk before a meal, preferably without flavouring.

**Dosage:** 2–3 cups per day, as hot as possible. The effect will be enhanced if you prepare a hot foot bath, while drinking hot elderflower tea, and then go to bed. This way you will „sweat out the cold,“ detoxify your body, and speed up recovery.

Children aged 6 and over should only be given a diluted infusion (1 teaspoon of flowers per 2.5 dl of water).

For a blocked nose and cough, it can be used for inhalation – it excellently clears the airways, thins mucus, and promotes expectoration.

For diuretic purposes: 1 cup in the morning.

As a supplement to a reduction diet: 1–2 cups daily for 3–4 weeks.

To increase the sweating effect: 1 cup of hot tea immediately before using the sauna.
The drink can be consumed 1-3 cups daily, for an unlimited period of time.
Outdoor use: For soothing effects, it is used as a compress for pleurisy, haemothorax, gout, frostbite, for psoriasis and eczema. Also suitable for compresses for inflamed eyes or styes.
