Organic raisins are naturally sweet, dried grapes with a high energy content. It takes as much as 4–5 kg of fresh, juicy grapes to produce approximately 1 kg of raisins. The drying process naturally concentrates the sweet flavour of the grapes, making raisins a popular ingredient in sweet dishes, breakfasts and baking.
Raisins were already being eaten around 2000 BC in Egypt and Persia. They are made from various grape varieties, which are cleaned both mechanically and by hand after drying. To prevent the individual grapes from sticking together, they are lightly coated with a layer of sunflower oil.
