Organic Tamari sauce is a traditional Japanese condiment with a distinctive, full-bodied and naturally salty flavour. It is made from soya beans through natural fermentation and, unlike classic shoyu sauce, does not contain wheat, making it suitable for a gluten-free diet.
Tamari is a great choice for seasoning both Asian and everyday dishes. You can use it instead of salt in salads, soups, sauces, pasta, rice or vegetable dishes. It’s also ideal for marinades, dips and wok-fried dishes.
The name „tamari“ comes from the Japanese word „tamaru“, which means „to accumulate“. It originally referred to the liquid that naturally accumulated during the production of miso from whole soya beans. In modern production, the soya beans are heat-treated, crushed and then fermented with water, salt and fermentation cultures. The mixture matures for approximately 6 months, after which it is decanted, pasteurised and bottled.
